Flying the "Hump"

C-47 Skytrain Flying Over the Himalayas

"If we’d had to wait for a pretty day, we’d still be there."

- Ned Thomas, HUMP PILOT: Defying Death Flying the Himalayas During World War II
Capt Tye Cadman

Allen Theodore "Tye" Cadman, age 25, my uncle, enlisted in the US Army Air Force on December 10, 1942. After completing basic and flight training, he joined the India-China Wing of the Air Transport Command and spent the remainder of the war flying over the Himalayas (the "Hump") from Burma to Japanese-occupied China delivering supplies to the Chinese war effort and to elements of the US Army Air Force based in China.
