In case you hadn't noticed, our country's progress on addressing global warming, at least on the federal level, has stalled. Or more accurately, it has shifted into reverse.
There are a number of possible motives for this regression ...
The administration claims "burdensome regulations" are stifling businesses dependent on fossil fuels. If true, is that really a bad thing, especially for the planet? And many of the larger companies affected (e.g., BP, Shell, Exxon Mobil, major automakers) actually oppose some of these reversals. If I were to speculate, I would place a large part of the motive among one or all of these: climate change denial, appeal to a part of the electorate, and/or reversal of anything Obama. Fortunately, many of these rule changes are being litigated in the courts and a large percentage won't ever see the light of day, but the trend is not good. This article in the NY Times sums it up.
